Message From the Principal

Good afternoon;

Yesterday, we gathered for our Terry Fox assemblies, where we officially kicked off our fundraising efforts for our 25th year of supporting The Terry Fox Foundation.  We are consistently in the top 10 fundraisers in Ontario, and last year we were ranked #2 in the province!  We are excited to get things started again this year!  Donations (online only) will be collected through the students' homeroom page.  You can also make a donation through our school page (click here) - feel free to share the link with your family and friends!  More information below.  Our Terry Fox Day will be Friday, Oct. 9th, and we are looking forward to an amazing day.  For those new to Holy Trinity, Terry Fox Day is a high-energy day filled with school spirit, fun, and a mutual commitment to raising funds towards this important cause.  

Today is the Harvest Moon Festival and we wish a Happy mid-Autumn festival to all who celebrate.  Today is also Franco Ontarian day and we wish a "Bonne Journée des Franco-Ontariens" to all of our francophone families.  Next Wednesday, September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation/Orange Shirt Day.  We invite all staff and students to wear orange on this day.  We will also have a self-led Reconciliation Walk available for class and individual reflection.

Next Friday, October 2nd is a PD Day, so there will be no school.  Our next newsletter will be on Friday, October 9th, our Terry Fox Day!

Morning Drop-Off

In our continuing efforts to reduce on-site vehicle congestion and maintain safety for all, we urge parents to adopt the “walk-a-block” request and drop students off a block (or more?) away from school.  If that is not possible, we ask parents dropping students off in the morning to drive through the side parking lot and continue through to the side door (as indicated on the diagram) when dropping off students, in order to help alleviate congestion on Katimavik Road.

Afternoon Pick-Up

Please be reminded that due to the larger number of yellow buses servicing our school this year, our parking lots will be blocked off/inaccessible for student pick-up after school.  We now have yellow buses staging in both the bus loop and the side parking lot, so for safety reasons we cannot have parent vehicles on property at this time.  Again, we strongly urge parents to have their students walk-a-block by picking them up a block or more away from school property.  We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that everyone stays safe.  Thank you!

OCSB International Languages Credit Courses

Student Services will update the Community Service Opportunities page on their website throughout the year as opportunities become available.  Please check back often for activities by which students can complete their 40 hours of community service required for graduation. 

News from CSPA (Catholic Schools Parents' Association)

• CSPA’s Family Expo is happening on Saturday, September 26th at St Paul’s High School. Explore workshops, find support and connect at our community resource cafe. Everyone is welcome!  Register HERE.

• September’s Monthly meeting: Sept 30th at OCSB Board Office beginning at 7PM. Learn about the Board initiatives for the upcoming school year as well as explore different communication strategies councils could use as well as how to leverage AI. Registration coming soon HERE.

Food Drive

This year's OCSB spiritual theme is 'Nourish New Beginnings'. In partnership with Holy Redeemer Parish, we will be celebrating the start of a new school year with Liturgies of the Word on Wednesday, October 7th. As part of our reflection on our need to be nourished and our call to nourish others, we will be collecting non-perishable food items in homerooms from October 5th to 7th. These will be offered as part of our prayerful celebrations on the 7th. Thank you in advance for your generosity. 1 item per student would be wonderful.

Ottawa 67's Day Game

The Grade 7 & 8 students at Holy Trinity have once again been invited to attend the annual Ottawa 67’s School Day Game at the arena at TD Place Lansdowne This is an exciting event that attracts many schools from the Ottawa Catholic School Board, and which promotes school spirit and community building. The date of the excursion is Wednesday, November 4. Sign up at School Cash Online by Wednesday, October 7.

France & Belgium Commemorative Vimy Trip 

NOW OPEN TO Gr 9 - 12 STUDENTS* 

It is not too late to register for the 2027 Commemorative Trip to France & Belgium. In April 2027, Holy Trinity staff and students will be travelling to France and Belgium, where they will participate in the 110th Vimy Ridge Commemoration Ceremony, visiting Paris, Normandy and Belgium. Watsons Mill

Do you have what it takes? Watson’s Mill in Manotick wants you to join our cast and crew for a truly haunting experience. We need volunteers to help with make up and costuming, as well as to scare our visitors and leave them frightened of things that go bump in the night.Haunt Night volunteers will be needed for the evenings of October 22, 23, and 24 from 5pm – 9:45pm. All time spent as part of our cast and crew can be used towards the 40 hours of community service needed to graduate.

Final Assessments – Exams and RSTs – School Year Calendar   

Grade 9 - 12 students’ examinations and Rich Summative Tasks (RSTs) WILL NOT be rescheduled for holiday or travel convenience, and all appointments should be scheduled so as not to conflict with exams and RSTs.  If a medical problem arises, a Vice Principal must be contacted prior to the exam or RST.  Medical certificates will be required to permit alternate arrangements for final examinations in these cases.

Students and Parents/Guardians can refer to the OCSB website for the Grade 9 - 12 calendar. These calendars identify the first and last day of school, PD days, Statutory Holidays, Board Holidays, and High School exams. As a general rule, it is prudent to avoid any planned student absences during the months of January and June as this is when RSTs and exams are scheduled.
