Hello Holy Trinity families;
This week our Hospitality students competed in a Grilled Cheese competition. I joined a team of staff judges to sample the offerings. There were four unique sandwiches: the "Italien Melt" with pepperoni, the "Sweet and Smoky Chicken Melt" with southwest BBQ flavours, the "Mexican Grilled Cheese" topped with fresh avocado, and the "Caprese Sub Cheese Sandwich" with pesto. They were all so yummy! One sandwich came out slightly ahead of all the others, though. Congratulations to Sara Calzada Urcid, Koralei O'Connell and Chloe Lafontaine on their "Caprese Sub Cheese Sandwich" creation! See a few pics below.
Schools have been asked to share that e-scooter use among youth is resulting in an alarming number of accidents and injuries. CHEO has reported this as a serious concern. We have been asked to send a reminder that e-scooters may only be used by those 16 and older, and by single riders (no doubling up). Riders under 18 must also wear a helmet during use. Ottawa Police has shared the following resources for parents as well:
e-scooter poster: English French
e-scooter safety video: English French

Halloween Costume Considerations
With Halloween just around the corner, the countdown is on to find the perfect Halloween costume. As tempting as it may be for students to dress up in pretty much anything they want to be, it is important to consider a more thoughtful approach to whether the costume is culturally sensitive and appropriate. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, cultural appropriation is “the act of taking or using things from a culture that is not your own, especially without showing that you understand or respect the culture.” Halloween is a fun event, and with some creativity and imagination, parents can help their child(ren) when deciding on a costume that aligns with a culturally sensitive Halloween. Being proactive can help all of us to avoid uncomfortable situations at school and in our community, and can help us ensure that Halloween is a fun event where all students feel safe and honoured. Of course, costume choices may not include masks or prop weapons.
Reminder - Morning Drop-off
In our continuing efforts to reduce on-site vehicle congestion and maintain safety for all, we urge parents to adopt the “walk-a-block” request and drop students off a block (or more?) away from school. If that is not possible, we ask parents dropping students off in the morning to drive through the side parking lot and continue through to the side door (as indicated on the diagram) when dropping off students, in order to help alleviate congestion on Katimavik Road.

Grade 9 - 12 students’ examinations and Rich Summative Tasks (RSTs) WILL NOT be rescheduled for holiday or travel convenience, and all appointments should be scheduled so as not to conflict with exams and RSTs. If a medical problem arises, a Vice Principal must be contacted prior to the exam or RST. Medical certificates will be required to permit alternate arrangements for final examinations in these cases. Students and Parents/Guardians can refer to the OCSB website for the Grade 9 - 12 calendar. These calendars identify the first and last day of school, PD days, Statutory Holidays, Board Holidays, and High School exams.
