The following letter was e-mailed on March 9. It provides important information and helpful hints for preparing for the test.

If you're looking for prep. activities, check out these resources:

1. Read, Write, Rock!

Read, Write, Rock! is a free educational video game for grades 9-12. The game encourages students to develop and practice their literacy skills, while participating as part of a virtual rock band. Read, Write, Rock! was developed by five English teachers in the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board with funding from The Ontario Ministry of Education`s Teacher Leadership and Learning Program.

2. The EQAO website

  1. Go to www.eqao.com and select English.
  2. From the menu bar at the top of the screen, select “Student Resources” or “Parent Resources”.
  3. Scroll down the page to select “Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test”.
  4. A variety of support materials will be listed, including the “Getting Ready Guide”, “Planning and Preparation Guide” and “Sample Test Materials” which include test questions with sample student answers and an example test booklet. 
  5. The Parent Resources also include suggestions on how parents can help their children prepare for the test. 
3. Student Survival Guide
A copy of the preparation lessons completed in all grade 10 English classes can be found on the school's website: 
  1. Go to http://trh.ocsb.ca
  2. Select the “Our School” tab at the top.
  3. In the middle column, scroll down to find “Academic Resource Information” and click on “Gr. 10 Literacy Test (OSSLT) Student Survival Guide.”
