Please see below important information from the Ottawa Student Transportation Authority (OSTA)

Parent Inquiries and Requests for Changes

The OSTA Parent Web Portal and Bus Stop Finder are open!  Parents can find information about their child’s transportation by access OSTA’s online information service.

  • Students assigned to yellow bus will find route and stop location and time info
  • Students on van service will be contacted by the driver a day or two before the route
  • Students in grades 7-12 on public transit will receive their Presto card at the school

Parents should complete a Transportation Issue Form if anything seems incorrect, if they have an inquiry or are requesting a change.  These will be prioritized over emails. Please note that bus stop changes and empty seat assignments will only occur after October 1, once bus loads have been balanced.

Transportation Communication

OSTA communicates important information about service issues, delays and cancellations.  Parents can register for email notification of route delays OSTA Parent Web Portal, as well as other general information like safety tips and snow days.  Parents can also sign up for Facebook and and follow OSTA on Twitter @ottbus.

Joint Custody and Transportation to Two Homes

Students who live at two homes (50/50 custody and access) can receive transportation to both homes.  Please visit OSTA Variable Transportation for Students in a Joint Custody Arrangement, and complete the application form and the schedule.  Both parents must sign both documents. These will be reviewed after September 15, after the start-up rush.  Renewal by end of June will ensure transportation will occur from the first day of school next year.

Public Transit Training

Students new to using public transit are encouraged to attend public transit training offered by OSTA and OC Transpo.  Learn more about safety features of bus and train systems, using Travel Planner to find your stop and route, Presto card and more!

Pedestrian Safety

Waking to school is a great way for children to get their daily quota of physical exercise.  Student behavior improves and students come to school prepared to learn. Parents can get information about the route to school by visiting OSTA Walk and Roll Zone, where information about Walking School Bus, Walk Routes to School Maps and other pedestrian safety tips can be found. #getyourwalkon #ottwalk2school.

School Bus Safety

Taking the bus to school is one of the experiences a child will remember most throughout their lives.  To help your child be a responsible and safe bus rider, please review safety rules found at OSTA School Bus Safety for Students and their Parents.  There are also several bus safety videos we recommend:

Empty Seats/Courtesy Seating

OSTA handles all empty seat/courtesy seating applications for OCSB schools.  The NEW DEADLINE for start-up applications is September 20.  These will only be reviewed after October 1, once load balancing has been completed.  Application forms and procedures are available online at Empty Seats/Courtesy Seating

Please note that no new stops will be created and students are prioritized based on youngest and farthest, then those with special circumstances and siblings, and finally, cross-boundary transfer students.

School Bus Drivers

You can help with the bus driver shortage by distributing the Driver Recruitment Flyer to your school community.  This is a great part-time job for stay-at-home parents, retired grand-parents, and newcomers looking to get into the workforce.  Free training is available.

Teachers, parents, high school students and community members are welcome to apply to be a Volunteer Walking School Bus Leader to help kids learn pedestrian safety and engage in active transportation for the following schools: St Andrew CS, John Young PS, Sir Winston Churchill PS, Viscount Alexander PS.  Free training and flexible schedules. Volunteer WSB Leader Registration
